Whole Wheat Bread
Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups white flour
- 2 3/4 cups whole-wheat flour
- 2 tablespoons dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups hot water
Directions:
In a bowl, mix the two types of flour together. In another bowl, mix 4 cups of the combined flour,
yeast, sugar, and salt. Carefully pour in the hot water, mixing together with a mixer for 4 minutes.
Add the remaining flour, working it in until blended and not sticky. Knead for 6 minutes and then
place in a greased bowl. Cover with a warm damp towel and let rise for 15 minutes. Punch down,
divide in half, and shape into loaves. On the top of each loaf, cut an "X" and brush with water.
Place on the middle rack of a cold oven. On the bottom shelf, place a pan of water. Turn the oven
to 400 degrees and bake the bread for 45 to 50 minutes.
