Honey Baked Beans



Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups dried kidney beans
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons tamari
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper

Directions:

Soak the beans in water for 5 hours. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Drain the beans, cover with fresh water, and boil for about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside. In a separate bowl, mix in the molasses, brown sugar, honey, mustard, cayenne pepper, and tamari. Add the beans, onions, garlic, and pepper, mixing until well blended. Put in a baking dish and add just enough water to cover the beans. Cover and bake for 7 to 8 hours, or until the beans are soft. You may need to add water from time to time so keep an eye on the dish during the baking time.

Serves 6.
